Traditionally, scientists, with a few notable exceptions, have spoken in public largely about the scientific evidence on the parallel climate and ecological crises. A minority have taken a position on policy and fewer still have spoken openly about their fears for the future. How can we encourage more academics to join other engaged citizens and speak out in the face of the very real risks the crises pose to not only to academia, but to life itself? What is academia's role in a climate and ecological emergency?
Dr Liz Kalaugher, SGR, Dr Alison Green, Scientists Warning, and Dr Aaron Thierry, Scientists for Extinction Rebellion, discuss the issues and options.
