Are international climate negotiations fit for purpose?

In February 2025, Andrew Simms (SGR and New Weather Institute), was one of the panellists in a discussion around the importance (or not) of international climate negotiations - such as the annual Conference of the Parties (COP) - in the past, present and future.

It was hosted Dr Simon Chin-Yee (a Political Scientist at University College London, UCL), as part of a UCL Disagreeing Well and Love Your Planet event.

Other panellists were Sir David King (former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government), Farhana Yamin (Climate Lawyer and Activist), Dr Jared Finnegan (UCL Political Science) and Shooka Bidarian (Environmental Correspondent and Sustainability Expert).

Watch it on YouTube here (50 minutes).
